Project Challenges

The challenge was that the client was not quite sure what it was they wanted built when we were asked to execute a project. We worked with TriScottsdale to organize their concepts into a functional design and brainstormed to formulate the most effective portal features that would be of the most benefit to their website visitors.

The first Ironman competition gathered as many as 50 athletes and was held in 1979. The race, however, was postponed a day because of bad weather conditions and only fifteen competitors started off the race Sunday morning. San Diego's Tom Warren won in 11 hours, 15 minutes, and 56 seconds. Lyn Lemaire, a championship cyclist from Boston, placed sixth overall and became the first "Ironwoman". Today, to qualify for Ironman Kona, the athlete must be able to complete an full triathlon in less than 10 hours. ;-)

Realm developed a complete identity package for TriScottsdale as well as membership cards, mailers, email marketing campaigns and more.

Realm worked with TriScottsdale to design a complete line of clothing items for the team including cycling shorts and jerseys, zip up jackets, tanks, one piece Shark Skin suits, swim caps, baseball caps, warm caps, Lycra Thermo leg warmers, bandanas, visors, cycling gloves, long and short sleeved men's and women's t-shirts, sport socks, sweatbands, as well as other accessories such as water bottles, bags and more.

The TriScottsdale logo was designed to reflect a stylized representation of the McDowell Mountains that flank the Eastern border of the City of Scottsdale, Arizona. The stylized "S" represents a path to follow into the mountains.

The TriScottsdale.org website features an amazing array of tools for triathletes including a dynamic race schedule system, blogs, forum, a social events tool, a dynamic photo gallery that interfaces with Flickr®, a video library that interfaces with YouTube®, pod cast system, shopping cart, athlete biographies, a resources area for each of the three sports, swimming, cycling, and running that lists all retail stores, coaching services, clubs, and organizations that specialize in that sport, a variety of online fitness calculators and much more.
